Between May 9 and 11, the World Hydrogen Summit 2023 was held in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, organized by the Sustainable Energy Council (SEC), in partnership with the Province of Zuid-Holland, the City of Rotterdam and the Port of Rotterdam, which was attended by more than 11.   5,000 delegates from nearly 100 countries, almost doubling the attendance registered last year, being the Chilean delegation, organized by ProChile, the largest in the world,  with 55 companies and about 100 executives   , which demonstrates the commitment of   Chile for promoting the industry from the public, private and academic sectors.

The Commercial Manager of Consulting of Pares & Alvarez, Paula Clemo, who was part  of the Chilean mission,  stressed that “participation in the summit was a very good experience, not only because it verified  the global interest in sharing the different alternatives to achieve the goals of global decarbonization,  its advantages, risks and gaps, but also  for the possibility of talking closely with the members of the great Chilean delegation, sharing visions and looking for ways of collaboration to meet the goals proposed in the National Hydrogen Strategy  “.

The World Hydrogen Summit 2023 has become a key platform to meet and connect with political leaders, ministers, commissioners of the European Union and CEOs from around the world.  As hydrogen becomes the dominant energy sector, it is crucial that policy makers and industry stakeholders increase collaboration, cross-sector dialogue and knowledge sharing to ensure the rapid scale-up and supply of a global hydrogen economy.

On the opening day of the event, Chile and the Netherlands signed a Memorandum of Understanding, of which Pares&Alvarez was a signatory, to boost the entire international value chain of green hydrogen supply for the Bay of Mejillones.  Marcos Kulka, executive director of H2  Chile, explained the importance for Chile  and the world of the port of Rotterdam, as a gateway to Europe for renewable hydrogen imports, which will not only play a role abroad, but will be responsible for 24% of Chile’s decarbonization by 2050.

Among the activities carried out around the hydrogen summit, the Chile Side Event took place, which aimed to make visible the opportunities that arise to promote Green Hydrogen projects in Chile.  Among the speakers were Asunción Borrás, Senior VP Business Development H2 Business Unit of  Engie and Vice President of H2 Chile;  Ramón Molina of the Innovation Centre of the Atolic University;  Erik van der Heijden, Business Manager Energy Transition of  the Port of Rotterdam;  and Gloria Maldonado, President of the Board of Directors of ENAP, among others.

“Collaboration with various countries and ports is key to positioning Chile internationally and we must continue working to invite the world to move forward together in this energy transition in which we want to contribute for the benefit of the entire planet. Participating in this event is part of this collaborative strategy of several State institutions together with the private sector, which will allow a hundred representatives of our ecosystem to present to the world the great potential offered by Chile,” said Ignacio Fernández, general director of ProChile.

With a world-class exhibition, technical seminars and the Hydrogen Awards Ceremony, this Summit brought together the main companies from the entire hydrogen ecosystem where they presented projects, innovative technologies, new products and key services for all aspects of this growing industry, which will be key to decarbonizing the planet.
