Hosted by South Australia’s Department for Energy and Mining, Copper to the World has become established as one of the world’s leading annual copper events, delivering unique access to insights and updates from voices across the Australian and global copper market, where Mario Escudero, Business Development Manager of Pares&Alvarez (Chile), will be one of the speakers at the conference.

One key discussion to be had is how Chile is facing the challenge of processing decreasing ore grades without using more energy and water and producing more waste, where Mario Escudero will relay our experience in chloride heap leaching.

In addition to overall market insights, this year’s event will look into the emerging environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria and data transformation in the copper sector and how this trend is impacting value creation through the supply chain.

Copper to the World was established in 2015 by the South Australian Government to bring a focus on this key strategic mineral and this year  will be held on 9 May in conjunction with the Austmine2023 Conference & Exhibition 10-11 May 2023 in Adelaide. Austmine and the South Australian Government are partnering to deliver this conference to showcase South Australia’s important copper industry and bring an innovation focus to ensure critical supply.

With predicted copper demand far outstripping supply in the coming years, there has never been a more important time for the industry to come together and discuss what the future holds. With a focus on South America Leading Copper’s Future, confirmed speakers include Jennifer Purdie, Asset President, Olympic Dam, BHP; Rafael Estrada, Manager of Information Systems, Telecommunications and Process Control, Antamina Mining Company (Peru); and Simon Beddow, Stage 2 Development Program Manager, Minera Las Bambas, MMG (Peru), among others.

Critical issues such as energy consumption, recycling, water and tailings will also be discussed, along with a presentation on the Technology Blueprint for Sustainable Copper. In addition, some of South Australia’s most exciting, emerging copper projects will be showcased, including Coda Minerals, Havilah and Strategic Minerals.
