This year’s edition of the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) brought together more than 23,000 delegates, returning to pre-pandemic attendance levels. Pares&Alvarez Andrés Jara, Head of Business Development, says that it was a very intense 4 days, with many meetings, and both in and outside the Metropolitan Toronto Convention Centre: “the face-to-face meetups, which were very elusive last year, fully resumed now, and that makes PDAC a tremendous meeting point for catching up with our international clients.”

Chilean attendance included representatives of the Ministry of Mining, Alta Ley, Sernageomin, Sonami, Cochilco, Enami, InvestChile and ProChile, as well as an important group of representatives of the private sector.

Chile’s Undersecretary of Mining, Mr. Willy Kracht: “It is the first time that we have participated in this conference with a delegation that goes beyond the institutions of the Government. When we came last year, we found this fair to be a good opportunity to attend with the mining industry in general. And this year, with the delegation of about 50 people who accompanied us, we hope to be able to position Chile not only as a seller of minerals but also as an exporter of mining.”

In addition to the more than 1,100 exhibitors who occupied more than 180 m2 of the MTCC, governments, companies and leading experts from around the world made this event one of the largest in the 91 years of existence of the association. “The energy and optimism witnessed during PDAC 2023 were palpable: it is clear that the mining exploration and mining industry has entered a period of great transformation and growth,” PDAC President, Alex Christopher, said at the closing of the conference.

Keynote speakers included Ken Hoffman of McKinsey & Co., Sinead Kaufman of Rio Tinto, and Alex Dorsch and Kevin Frost, from Chalice Mining; topics included capital markets, indigenous affairs, students and early careers, sustainability and technical programs, among others.
